Hardin Searches for Tessa at the Party and Attacks Dan

After We Fell

Hardin Searches for Tessa at the Party and Attacks Dan is a rescue attempt driven by panic, jealousy, and guilt. When he learns that Tessa has been drugged and Dan may be involved in a plan against her, Hardin tears through the night to the fraternity house, assaulting people as he searches for her. He finds Dan, not Tessa, and the news that Zed has already helped her escape shifts the crisis from immediate pursuit to a desperate search for her whereabouts.

The warning and the drive

Hardin is at his apartment when his phone vibrates repeatedly. He answers ready to rebuke the caller, but the warning that the situation concerns Tessa instantly changes his focus. The caller reports that Steph has slipped Tessa something and that Dan is involved. Hardin asks where they are; upon hearing that the party is at the fraternity house, he hangs up, grabs his keys, and rushes out.

The distance makes his panic tangible: the drive is twenty miles, and Hardin experiences it as the longest of his life. He runs red lights, anticipating at least four tickets, while the warning repeats in his mind. His anger is directed at Steph and Dan, but the urgency is rooted in uncertainty about what has happened to Tessa. The scene turns the news of danger into immediate action, with Hardin measuring every delay against the possibility that she is still exposed to harm.

Searching the fraternity house

Hardin reaches the old fraternity house without turning off his car. Inside, drunken partygoers fill the living room and hallways, obstructing his effort to find Tessa. He seizes Nate by the collar and slams him against a wall to demand her location. Nate says he has not seen her; Hardin loosens his grip, shoves him away, and asks where Steph is.

The search carries into the backyard, where Hardin spots Steph by her red hair in the darkness. He grabs the back of her leather coat and lifts her off the ground, demanding to know where Tessa is. He does not remain with Steph for long. He asks a girl sitting at the bottom of the stairs where Dan Heard is, and her directions send him upstairs.

The confrontation with Dan

Hardin takes the stairs two at a time and tackles Dan before Dan notices him. The impact knocks other people over. Hardin pins Dan down and grips his throat, demanding to know where Tessa is. When Dan does not answer, Hardin tightens his hands around his neck. A nearby young man says he does not know Tessa and backs away as Hardin continues choking Dan.

Dan’s face turns from pink to purple before he nods that he will answer. Hardin releases him and demands that he speak. The violence temporarily gives way to a more urgent question: Hardin needs information about Tessa’s whereabouts, not merely a chance to punish Dan. The search has brought him to the person he suspects, but the attack has not yet brought him to Tessa.

Learning that Zed intervened

Molly emerges from a room in the hallway and tells Hardin that Zed had nothing to do with Steph’s plan, although he had heard her talk about doing something. She says she thinks Tessa left with Zed. Molly explains that Zed went downstairs and got her and Tristan before the situation could go further. Steph had been acting as though she wanted Dan to rape Tessa, though she also claimed she meant only to make it look that way. Molly adds that Dan touched Tessa a little.

The revelation gives Hardin some relief: Tessa is away from Steph and Dan. But it does not settle what happened to her, and it intensifies his fear about how much danger she faced. Hardin kicks Dan in the cheek, knocking him back to the floor, then turns away to look for Tessa. He recognizes that Zed was the person who saved her, even as his jealousy makes him distrustful of Zed’s presence. Relief and suspicion therefore coexist: Hardin knows Tessa has escaped the immediate threat, but he does not know whether she is safe now.

Guilt and the continuing search

Hardin connects the attack to his own past actions, blaming himself for the danger Tessa faced. He thinks that if he had not harmed Dan’s sister, this attempt at revenge would not have happened. The episode makes his protective impulse inseparable from responsibility: he wants to reach Tessa, but he also sees the crisis as a consequence of what he has done. His fear becomes especially acute because she has been drugged and is with Zed, whom he does not fully trust.

Hardin calls Tessa, but can only leave a voicemail pleading for her to answer. He recognizes that she may be unable to respond and wonders whether Zed could answer on her behalf. By the time he reaches Zed’s apartment, he is crying. Zed asks whether Tessa wants to be found; Hardin cannot answer, and Zed suggests that if she does not, she may have gone to the one place Hardin would not go. Hardin realizes this means Tessa’s childhood home. He contacts Landon, who gives him directions, and sets out to see her. The episode ends with Hardin still en route: he has found out who intervened and where Tessa may be, but has not yet confirmed her safety or reunited with her.
